Archaeologische Staatssammlung München
Built between 1970 and 1975, the Archaeologische Staatssammlung stands as one of the most prominent examples of new museum architecture in Germany at that time. Six cubic volumes dominate the building's appearance facing Englischer Garten, where the use of corten steel, then a relatively unknown material, became the distinctive hallmark and image of the museum. After more than four decades, the passage of time necessitated a significant transformation, an extension of exhibition spaces, and a complete update of the museum in its functional and technical aspects. The project by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, conscious of both the architectural quality of the existing building and the environmental reasons favoring the rehabilitation of existing structures rather than their demolition, is the result of a patient and precise process within the constraints of the original project, guided by its own geometric, construction, and spatial laws. The museum has been restored while preserving its mos ...查看全文 -
Portrait Milano
After more than two decades, one of the most fascinating hidden places in Milan’s Fashion District has been returned to the city and made accessible to the public. Thanks to a delicate restoration project promoted by Lungarno Collection and entrusted to Architect Michele De Lucchi, the former Archbishop's Seminary at Corso Venezia 11 has reopened as a new destination that combines the tailored hospitality for which the Portrait brand is known for with gourmand, shopping, wellness and cultural experiences.
The majestic Piazza del Quadrilatero appears through Francesco Maria Richini’s splendid Baroque archway, and with its over 2,800 sqm (30,000 sqf) it offers hotel guests, those travelling through the city and locals alike not only a new promenade that connects Corso Venezia with Via Sant’Andrea, but an elegant seventeenth-century colonnade too.

House 1627
On the ruins of Mas Geli, an old farmhouse, of which only two facades with buttresses and a couple of spaces with stone vaults were preserved, this new house rises, which reinterprets values of vernacular architecture without renouncing the contemporaneity of the proposal.
The project aims to be coherent with the context, looking for the integration of the new farmhouse in the exceptional landscape of Baix Empordà, a continuum of agricultural spaces with the distant (but constant) presence of ancestral farmhouses perfectly situated in the landscape.
The morphology of the original farmhouse determines both the structural typology (massive walls and ceilings) and the spatial organization (sequence of structural rooms) of the new house, which adopts an orthogonal grid of successive rooms configured by load-bearing walls, very thick Cyclopean concrete, and structural vaults, pre-existing stone or new concrete.
The new roof, made of tiles, supported by a wooden structure visible inside, re ...查看全文 -

Two Families House
The assignment consists of the division of a single-family house from the mid-20th century, located in La Floresta neighborhood, in Sant Cugat del Vallés, to accommodate two families. The building is surrounded by a garden with different terraces that help overcome the steep slope of the land, with the main access at the highest level and a second access at the lower level.
The house, with four floors, one of them in the basement, and built with load-bearing walls, was organized based on the juxtaposition without hierarchy of rooms of different sizes, some of which were of a certain elegance, spacious, symmetrical and with large openings. The project, based on the original matrix, superimposes a new hierarchy, ordering itself from a sequence of large rooms connected to each other.
The technical and programmatic specificities of each new use accumulate like a poché on the perimeters of each space, camouflaging the interventions through the appropriation of some existing geometries and ...查看全文 -
Résidence de la Promenade
Nestled atop a rocky cliff, offering breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River and the bridges of Quebec City, LemayMichaud introduces a single-family home providing its residents with an exceptional living environment, where the exterior and interior seamlessly blend.
The interplay of volumes and openings that make up the architecture of this residence offers its occupants panoramic perspectives of the outdoor environment, while preserving their privacy. On the ground floor, two rectangular volumes are placed parallel to the St. Lawrence River, along the edge of the cliff. A third volume, placed perpendicularly above, forms the upper floor. This deliberate use of composition of volumes takes advantage of the site and its views, thus creating strong connections between the interior and exterior.
The building's architecture blends masonry on the ground floor with wood on the upper floor. The light gray brick of the first level, with nuanced and textured tones, creates a mineral base f ...查看全文 -

Boutique Hotel
The birth of Pure Way Thoughts · Carefree Wandering Boutique Hotel originated from the love between two young managers, who hope to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and find a place for their soul. Therefore, in 2016, the first Pure Way Thoughts was established on the southwest side of the visitor's dock in the Xihai Scenic Area, facing the Xihai lake. Primarily, it served as a holiday retreat and a place for the couple to delve into poetry, literature, and the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture. Incidentally, a few guest rooms were also set up to accommodate friends and students. At that time, the concept of a hotel had not yet fully materialized. At that time, just before the onset of the global pandemic, the country was experiencing a robust period of vacation and tourism, with an insatiable demand for accommodations. To meet the needs of a large number of enthusiasts of the Pure Way Thoughts brand, a plan for the construction of a second phase naturally ca ...查看全文 -
Cité Angus II
Located on the outskirts of Montreal's Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie district, the Technopôle Angus is part of an integrated approach to sustainable development, revitalization, and access to home ownership for families wishing to settle in the heart of the city. The district features a mix of green spaces, public squares, restaurants, local shops and services, office space, and residential buildings. Certified LEED Neighbourhood Development Platinum, the Technopôle is a humble, local response to the contemporary challenges of housing shortages and the exodus of families to the Montreal suburbs.
The Block 4 project, known as Cité Angus phase II, is a 6-storey building comprising 88 condominium units, including two small commercial premises on the first floor facing the public square. The heterogeneity of the surrounding building context, the desire to offer each building its own identity, combined with a dense program to be implemented on a cramped site with an atypical shape, are a summ ...查看全文 -

INHABITED FOREST
The architectural proposal presents a new contextual conception by closely adhering to the plot subject to intervention, resolving this urban area of the Campus Extension. Furthermore, it proposes a radical solution of dividing the program into two bodies: one suspended, white ceramic and hermetic, housing teaching, research, and faculty activities; and a glassy and permeable body in contact with the ground, hosting all the public functions of the Faculty. Thus, the idea of a large architectural tree or forest emerges, where teaching and learning take place among its branches.
Consequently, the building complex perfectly adapts to the setback perimeter of the plot on its southern-western slope, rising to free up space and reproduce, with the scale of the building, the same characteristics and urban solutions of its urban planning geometry.
The release of the plot consists of two clearly differentiated parts: the eastern part, through a transparent pavilion of a height h ...查看全文 -
Casa do Sobreiro
The project in question is intended for a single-family home that revolves around a remarkable element of the land, a century-old Cork Oak tree. We can start this description by alluding to the project's title: "The House of the Cork Oak" and not "The Cork Oak of the House." This is because the said tree emerges as the main and prominent element throughout the intervention.
The land, approximately 730 square meters, is located in a small rural cluster in the parish of Figueiró – Amarante. The access road is narrow, with constructions like houses, fencing/support walls, and/or small buildings adjacent to it.
Starting with the large Cork Oak, valuing it and promoting harmony with the built volume, the proposal respects the setback from the road and neighboring constructions with several decades of existence, the path of servitude to the west, and the boundary of the national agricultural reserve to the south. The solar exposure and the landscape also played a crucial role in the design ...查看全文 -
N.Sauro Primary School
A school architecture that becomes a new centrality for the Community of Brugnera: this was the goal for the N. Sauro primary school in Brugnera, as the first chapter of a larger project which involves the construction of a new whole school center.
Imagined as a large cetacean, the school shows two levels above ground housing 8 classrooms, a canteen, a teachers' room and a multifunctional connective area with spaces dedicated to socializing and individual study.
Starting from the outline of the existing school, the plan develops towards the north, with classrooms arranged along the east side of the building and the canteen on the west side; the connective space represents - with the service block and the stairs - the functional heart of the building. The hall becomes the distribution hub between the school block and the existing buildings, which can be accessed from the same compass.
The project has been conceived of eco-compatible, resistant and insulating materials and able to guarant ...查看全文 -
LAS MIL Y UNA NOCHES
The house, located in the centre of the capital of Alicante, occupies an entire floor of the building with a total of 110 m2. In the centre of the building, a bright but uninteresting inner courtyard organises the space of the property. Prior to the renovation, the house had 6 bedrooms, one bathroom, two fireplaces and an exterior sliding space along the courtyard. After the renovation, there were 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1,000 bookcases, 2 fireplaces, 1 kind of museum and 1 microscope bench.
Letting yourself to be seduced by the interests - both public and secret - of the client, you discover more about their home than any established programmatic approach. Thus, we found fossil collectors, astronauts, Pokemon trainers or 2.16-metre tall human beings.
However, our reality -internal and external- is not defined by a single hobby, profession or concrete physicality, but turns out to be a tangle of sensations, hobbies, whims and manners that seek their spatiality and that can be as epheme ...查看全文 -

CARTE BLANCHE TO KIMSOOJA
To Breathe—Constellation
Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection, Paris
20 March to 2 September 2024
The work presented in the Rotunda is made up of mirrors on the floor. Visitors must wear overshoes to access this area. Skirts are not recommended and stilettos are forbidden.
As part of the "Le monde comme il va" exhibition, South Korean artist Kimsooja is presenting a carte blanche entitled "To Breathe - Constellation". Her installation in the Rotunda of the Bourse de Commerce is both monumental and ethereal: an immense mirror on the floor that, as one approaches, inverts the architecture and the order of the world with it, the sky opening up in the middle of the building, beneath our feet. Kimsooja is also taking over the 24 display cases in the Passage and the lower level of the museum with works and video installations that address her favourite themes: identity, borders, memory, exile, movement, and weaving.
“I would like to create works that are like w ...查看全文 -
Let’s Pastrami
The “Let’s Pastrami” project proposes setting up a café by renovating a 60 m2 corner space in the Santos neighborhood of Lisbon. The goal was to create an impactful yet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for cooking and serving up delicious pastrami sandwiches alongside carefully selected cocktails and wines.
The space is accessed through one of the openings that overlook the street. The main space, with higher ceiling, revolves around three central elements: the first piece, opposite the entrance, features a larger volume and hides the washing area at the back. Facing the entrance, it doubles as a work and preparation counter, supported by upper shelves. The second piece, of lower height, serves both as a plating counter and customer service area. The third, smaller piece offers seating at a low table. These elements don’t touch the peripheral walls, allowing for circulation and creating a volumetric progression along the space, simultaneously transitioning from the most public near the ...查看全文 -
Via Valtorta residential complex
The residential complex in Via Valtorta, for which CZA has overseen the schematic and the detailed design phases – though not the final design – aims to consolidate and enrich the existing urban fabric, with particular attention to the corner of the block where Via Valtorta, Giacomo Rovetta, and Matteo Maria Boiardo intersect.
The new residential volumes play a key role in this project, seeking to establish a harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment. There is a clear commitment not only to comply with urban planning regulations but also to create a sense of unity and cohesion between the existing and new buildings. This integration is made possible by adjusting the heights of the residential complex, with the lowest block placed near the historic buildings along Via Valtorta.
These height variations also consider different perspectives and panoramic views, while simultaneously responding to the constraints of the terrain and solar orientation in different seasons.

ARTCOR
ARTCOR - Creative Industries Center is situated in the heart of Chisinau, within the Art Academy (AMTAP) courtyard. The center aims to foster the growth of creative industries in Moldova and serve as a hub for such endeavors. The architectural design of the building takes into account the plot position, neighboring structures, and the presence of a 19th-century architectural monument.
The facility comprises a new 400 m² building and a portion of the old Academy building measuring 450 m². The site area previously occupied by an old storage and jerry-building covering 300 m² was cleared to create additional public space. The new building accommodates a mixed-use space for cultural and business purposes, including a second-floor space for workshops and startup collaborations. The green terrace on the roof offers access through open-air auditorium stairs oriented towards the Cazimir-Keshco residential monument.
The left part of the first floor of the Academy's building built in the 1950s ...查看全文 -
Gardner Close
Gardner Close is Haworth Tompkins’ second project for Pocket Living. Located close to Wanstead High Street, it consists of 20 one-bedroom apartments for first time buyers who live and work in Redbridge. The design makes the most of the challenging brownfield site, successfully overcoming constraints such as limited street frontage, proximity to neighbouring buildings, and site access.
Filling the gap between a row of terraced houses, and Manor House Gardens, the building addresses the road. A calm and robust elevation incorporates generous punched windows and bespoke metalwork that is in dialogue with the material palette of the surrounding buildings.
Green window frames reference those of The Shrubbery Building, a 1930s Grade II listed apartment block located to the north of the site. Pink metalwork screens the external galleries, and is matched to the colour of the brickwork. We innovatively utilised the gallery screen to perform a number of roles included providing privacy, protect ...查看全文 -
